STARSkate Spring School

Stamford Skating Club offers spring school program this year. This program runs from April 5 to April 29 at Jack Bell Arena. For time and session information, Click the link below.
You can drop completed forms off with payment on Mondays, Wednesdays or Thursdays between 6:30-8:00.

[Registration] February Update

We are currently winding down our regular CANSkate/POWERSkate season at the Jack Bell Arena. Last day of Sunday classes will be Feb 21st, Wednesday Classes – March 24th and Thursday Classes – March 25th. We will be accepting registration for CANSkate and POWERSkate again in August/September 2010.

We will once again be offering a Spring School for STARSkaters for the month of April. Please click on the link for Spring School for registration forms and more information.

4 day package: $65
8 day package: $125

Dawn Gallardi and Nancy Gruhl will be running a Powerskating and Stickhandling Class this spring. Please see link for more information.

Your NIAGARA Region will be hosting a seminar on Tuesday March 17th,2010 with KRIS and KRISTY WIRTZ

Former Canadian Pair Champions, World, and Olympic Pair Skaters.

All skaters from Pre-Preliminary or higher are welcome to attend. Skaters will be divided further according to their level of free skate.

Seminar schedule as follows:

Pre-Preliminary – Jr. Bronze: Registration opens at 8:30 with Seminar session 9am to 12
Sr. Bronze to Gold: Registration opens at 12:30 with Seminar session 1pm to 4 pm

Skaters are asked to bring their own drinks and snacks.

We must have at least 30 skaters to conduct our seminar with a maximum of 70 skaters. Therefore, please get your applications in early to enable your skater to participate. Application deadline is March 7th, 2010.

No applications will be accepted after this date.

Responsibilities as a Skating Parent

Coach Dawn came with a great information for our skaters and parents. An article on U.S. Figure Skating web site explains about being a responsible skating parent.
These are the first steps the article points out.

1. Encourage your child to skate but don’t pressure. Let your child choose to skate if he or she wants to.
2. Understand what your child wants from skating and provide a supportive atmosphere for achieving these goals.
3. Put your child’s participation in perspective. Don’t make skating everything in your child’s life; make it a part of life.
4. Make sure the coach is qualified to guide your child through the skating experience.
5. Keep winning in perspective and help your child do the same.
6. Help your child set challenging but realistic performance goals rather than focusing only on “winning.”
7. Help your child understand the valuable lessons skating can teach.
8. Help your child meet responsibilities to the coach.
9. Discipline your child when necessary.
10. Turn your child over to the coach at practices and competitions – don’t meddle or coach from the sidelines.
